Obligatory Election Post

Well, America is safe for another 4 years. I say that seriously. I'm not an Obama fanatic by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think I've ever felt so strongly opposed to a presidential candidate as I have to Romney. I'm ashamed of the nearly 50% of my nation who actually wanted him to be president. For those who voted for him just because they're republican, I'm actually a little more ok with you. I have more respect for an uninformed vote for Romney than an informed one. He has no respect for women's rights or health, minorities in general, or the lower class. He had no real economic policy, and little understanding of the effectively limited role of the president.
I do hope some things change this term, but it's not really up to Obama. It's up to the senate and the house. This childish bickering that's been going on has done nothing but make me feel embarrassed of my nationality.
A lot of people think Ron Paul is crazy, but I really liked him. He understood how a nation this large needs to be run: states need to be in control of social issues, and federal government needs to stick to economics and foreign affairs.
I truly believe that the biggest failure of America in general is that we have come to think of ourselves as one giant nation: AMERICA. The truth is our country is called the United States of America. UNITED STATES. That means that we are a conglomerate of geographically, socially, and politically distinct territories that have come together in a mutual understanding and loyalty of an overarching government.
Yes, voting for the president is VERY important, but you know what's more important? Local elections. There is so little interest and information on local elections, that they get forgotten and shrugged off. But it's our local officials who make the many decisions that can effect our daily lives. They are the officials to whom we have access. They are the ones who can hear our voices.
Congratulations, Mr. Obama for being re-elected. I hope you do your best to do what's best for our country.
And to all of my fellow Americans, get involved locally. We need to reconstruct our country from the ground up, not the top down.
And that is my opinion. Good day.
